Honey

A relatively new body of work, Honey utilizes silkscreen photo emulsion printing processes on thin handmade papers which are then treated with a thin coating of natural unrefined beeswax. The imagery and text investigate themes of womanhood. The beeswax retains both the natural yellow color and honey smell, harkening to a matriarchal power structure naturally existent in the wild. Flower motifs and metal leafing illustrate the delicacy and formality of traditional female roles within history. The unprinted paper becomes translucent from the encaustic (wax) process, dramatically changing the way each piece looks depending on the lighting and method of display.
